Chimney caps
Chimney caps are the top-most protective cover on a chimney. They act as a barrier to small animals, spark arrestors, as well as keeping rain water out of the flue. Water erodes the mortar and longevity of the chimney.
Chimney caps as spark arrestors are very important because they keep sparks from jumping out of the chimney and lighting the roof on fire. What’s more important than preventing the house from catching fire? All you have to do is buy a chimney cap and install it. Don’t try to make your own. That never works out.
Chimney caps also help keep small animals out of the chimney. Birds, raccoons, cats, etc., all pose a threat to the safety of the chimney. They are an important preventative safety feature of any chimney, masonry or prefab.
