Chimney pots

A chimney pot is placed at the top of the chimney to extend the length of the chimney and encourage an efficient draft. Chimney pots are functional and decorative, usually featuring a screen at the very top to act as a spark arrestor and to keep birds from nesting in there. They are also equipped with rain guards.

An English antique chimney can be purchased in the shape of chess pieces, cannons, or made to resemble an architectural style. They are also made brand new, but there is a huge market right now for reclaimed chimney pots.

A roof with more than one chimney pot means there is more than one fireplace in the house/building, usually on a different floor. However many fireplaces you have, chimney pots date way back as being the functional and decorative way to protect your fireplace chimney.
